Dar e Nijaat Episode 3 Review: The Insecure Man Found His Harvard Rival

If you had told me after Episode 1 that the biggest plot twist of this drama would involve a LinkedIn profile search at a Karachi gym, I would have laughed.

Yet here we are in Episode 3, and I am sitting with my jaw on the floor.

Remember how Zamil spent the last two episodes guilt tripping Zaryab into throwing away her Harvard University admission just so his wounded male pride would not bleed out in Karachi? Remember how he acted like a tragic, helpless poet whose academic failure was an unpredictable tragedy? Well, go straight to , because the moment Zamil discovers that Abu Bakar actually attended a leadership program at Harvard, his entire personality does a complete somersault. He does not suddenly find self respect or ambition through introspection. No, his fragile male ego simply found an imaginary rival to obsess over.

Dar e Nijaat just shifted from a standard family clash into a delicious study of insecurity, and I have so much to say about every single scene in this episode.

When Grace Walks Into A Room Full Of Noise

We pick up right where the tension left us at the dining table. At , Abu Bakar is politely trying to excuse himself from overeating because he has a long drive back to Hyderabad. It is such a tiny, ordinary moment, but it sets the tone for who this man is. While the Karachi household lives in absolute excess, Abu Bakar and his mother live with quiet restraint.

Then Shamsa walks in at and decides to turn a family lunch into an arena. She confronts Dadi about scolding Zaryab in front of her friends during the wedding dance practice.

I loved Dadi in this moment. Dadi does not blink. She immediately points out the reality: Abu Bakar was sitting peacefully in the lounge reciting the Holy Quran, and Zaryab literally chased him away because she wanted to practice her wedding dance.

What made my heart genuinely warm up, however, was Abu Bakar’s reaction at .

He does not get defensive. He does not play the pious victim. He immediately stands up, takes the entire blame on his own shoulders, and says that the fault is his because he should have known they were busy. He apologizes to Shamsa, he apologizes to Dadi, and he completely defuses the bomb.

Now look at what happens the second he handles it with dignity. At , Shamsa instantly turns around and attacks Zaryab for overreacting and embarrassing her. I was laughing so hard at Zaryab’s face here. Zaryab literally whines that she brought her mother to defend her, and instead her mother switched sides within two minutes. That is Pakistani household politics captured with absolute perfection.

The Nobody Who Is Rent Free In Zamil’s Head

By , Zaryab is venting to Zamil, and this is where Zamil’s creepy antenna goes up. Zaryab dismisses Abu Bakar as a complete nobody. She gives him the wedding card right there in person simply to get rid of an errand.

Notice Zamil’s reaction. He does not care about Zaryab’s stress. He does not care about the wedding. His immediate focus is fixated entirely on Abu Bakar. He mutters that he has seen him somewhere before.

Then he says the line that reveals his deep, festering insecurity at : "Still, your Dadi likes him for you."

Zamil cannot handle the idea of any man existing in Zaryab’s orbit, especially one who earns the respect of elders.

Meanwhile, Abu Bakar is in the car with his mother Khushbakht at , quietly requesting her that from now on, he will only drop her outside the mansion and pick her up later. He does not want his presence to cause anyone discomfort.

Khushbakht’s monologue to Abu Bakar at made me pause the video. She says that pampered daughters who are spoiled by their fathers never realize whose forehead they wrinkle or whose heart they wound. But Abu Bakar looks at his mother and says something that made me respect him tenfold: he does not believe in cheap ego or false pride, and petty insults cannot touch his dignity.

To break his mother out of her heavy sadness, he puts on a Mehdi Hassan ghazal and jokes that she should not worry because he will not sing it himself. The warmth between this mother and son is the emotional anchor of this entire serial. It makes the cold, transactional Karachi house look so hollow by comparison.

Tarbiyat Does Not Happen After The Nikkah

Back at the mansion, Dadi goes on a hunger strike, which is the universal weapon of every Pakistani grandmother.

At , Habib walks into her room trying to soothe her, and Dadi drops the ultimate truth bomb at : "Parenting does not happen after marriage. After marriage, you only see the results of tarbiyat."

She calls out Habib directly. If parents do not make time to pray or understand their values because they are too busy running after business and social status, how will their daughters ever know what respect looks like? Habib offers the lazy excuse that every modern father uses: they will learn when they go to their in laws. Dadi shut that nonsense down immediately.

While Dadi is holding Habib accountable, Zamil’s parents are having their own discussion at about arranging a formal engagement before the kids leave the country.

And what does our dear Zamil do? At , he throws a tantrum. He tells his parents that his career and his degree are in a ditch and he cannot handle the stress. His father generously tells him that the family business is waiting for him even if he gets zero marks. But Zamil’s pride cannot swallow that. He snaps that his peers are applying to Ivy League universities while he is groveling for B grade colleges.

He wants the prestige of an Ivy League graduate without putting in the work, and he wants Zaryab to sink to his level so he does not feel lonely in his failure.

Are Modern Families Just Careless?

The late night bedroom argument between Habib and Shamsa at gave me chills because of how realistic it was.

Shamsa is furious that Dadi constantly talks about tarbiyat. She defends her parenting by boasting that her daughters are the most stylish, well dressed, groomed girls in their entire social circle. She even uses Faryal’s wedding into an elite family as proof of her success.

Habib tries to explain that Dadi is talking about religious grounding and moral character. Shamsa fires back at : "If we are liberal and modern, does that make us non believers?"

Habib’s reply at was the sharpest line of the night: "Not non believers, but definitely careless."

That hit the nail on the head. Shamsa equates parenting with wardrobe, grooming, and marrying into wealthy families. The idea of instilling modesty, respect, or basic spiritual grounding is something she treats like an unbearable burden. When she sarcastically threatens to put all three daughters in hijabs tomorrow, you see her total lack of depth.

The LinkedIn Revelation And The Gym Confession

Now let us talk about the scene that completely rewired the dynamic of this drama.

At , we see Abu Bakar in his actual professional element. He is not just a quiet boy from Hyderabad. He is an Executive Engineer and Plant Manager at a major cement plant, giving an articulate, sharp presentation to Federal Minister Asad Malik. He is competent, respected, and educated.

Cut to Zamil at the gym at , furiously cyberstalking Abu Bakar online.

I literally cheered out loud when Zamil read the credentials to Zaryab: Abu Bakar is an engineer, completing his MPhil, and he completed a prestigious leadership program at Harvard.

HARVARD.

The poetic justice here is staggering. Zaryab gave up Harvard for Zamil, thinking she was protecting his delicate emotions, only for the man her Dadi adores to have already walked those very same halls.

Watch Zamil’s face at . He lists the reasons why he cannot stop obsessing over Abu Bakar: 1. Dadi likes him for Zaryab. 2. He went to Harvard where Zamil failed to go.

And then comes the most unhinged declaration of the year at . Zamil tells Zaryab that he has decided to reappear for his exams and improve his grades.

When Zaryab excitedly asks what prompted this miracle, he looks right at her and says: "Abu Bakar. I guess I just needed a rival to change my mind."

I was so exasperated with Zaryab at . Instead of slapping some common sense into him, she strokes his cheek, stares into his eyes, and assures him that there is no Abu Bakar in her heart, that she is entirely his.

Girl, wake up. He did not decide to improve his life for you, or for his parents, or for his future. He decided to do it out of spite and envy toward a stranger he saw for two seconds in a hallway.

When The Cracks Begin To Show

Zaryab returns home from the gym in athletic wear at , sparking another round of sparring with Dadi about dressing modestly around house staff. But Zaryab cannot resist her curiosity anymore. At , she casually brings up Abu Bakar to Dadi, probing about his education and his Harvard background. Dadi proudly declares that the boy is one in hundreds of thousands, warning Zaryab never to compare him to her worthless Zamil.

Meanwhile, over at Zamil’s home at , his own family is reaching their breaking point.

His sister observes his wild mood swings, his refusal to commit to a plan, and his explosive temper. She bluntly tells their mother that Zamil needs to see a therapist because his mental health is completely broken.

Then she says the line that fans have been shouting at the screen since Episode 1: "Zaryab is leaving Harvard for him? Are they both crackpots? What kind of Romeo and Juliet story is this?"

Thank goodness someone in this drama has functional brain cells. His sister sees right through the theatrical romance. She knows Zamil is unstable, and she knows Zaryab’s sacrifice is pure foolishness.

The Ending Whisper That Changes Everything

The final two minutes delivered the punch that will redefine the next arc.

Zaryab is lounging in her sister Faryal’s bedroom at , sharing a sweet sisterly moment about how much they will miss each other after the wedding.

Then at , Faryal turns serious. She asks about Zamil.

Zaryab laughs it off, but Faryal leans in and drops the bomb at : "Is he on drugs?"

The freeze frame on Zaryab’s shocked face as the screen cuts out was perfection.

In my review of Episode 2, I theorized that Zamil’s sudden academic collapse was not just simple laziness, that there was a darker, deliberate sabotage or personal deterioration behind it. Faryal’s direct question proves that Zamil’s erratic behavior, mood swings, insomnia, and paranoia are visible to people outside the immediate bubble. If Zamil is battling substance abuse or dangerous dependencies, Zaryab’s decision to stay behind to babysit him is not romantic devotion, it is sheer disaster.

Continuity Check And Theory Scorecard

Let us look back at the running theories established from earlier episodes:

1. Theory from Episode 2: "Zamil's academic failure is a deliberate sabotage or facade rather than a genuine struggle." Status: PARTLY VALIDATED AND ESCALATING. Episode 3 revealed that Zamil can suddenly decide to reappear for exams the moment his ego is threatened by Abu Bakar, confirming his failure was never about lacking ability, but about petulance, entitlement, and possibly something far darker like substance abuse.

2. Theory from Episode 1: "The mystery caller from Hyderabad is related to Zaryab’s family secret." Status: PENDING. Khushbakht’s visit to Karachi was brief, and Abu Bakar insisted on taking her back to Hyderabad. The mystery girl did not call in this episode, but Khushbakht’s constant internal anxiety when walking around the neighborhood proves she is waiting for that secret to detonate.

What I Think Is Coming Next: Original Predictions

Here are my evidence backed predictions moving into Episode 4:.

Prediction 1: Zaryab Will Investigate Zamil’s Secret Life Rather Than Confront Him Directly

Confidence Level: HIGH Reasoning: Zaryab’s reaction at was pure denial mixed with sudden dread. She is not the type to walk away immediately. She will try to play detective, search his room or check his circle of friends, desperately hoping Faryal was wrong. What Would Prove Me Wrong: If Zaryab immediately breaks up with Zamil in Episode 4 without doing any digging.

Prediction 2: Zamil’s Reappearance Plan Will Collapse Spectacularly

Confidence Level: VERY LIKELY Reasoning: Zamil’s motivation to study is entirely built on toxic jealousy of Abu Bakar at , not genuine discipline. If he is indeed struggling with drug abuse as Faryal suggested at , you cannot simply cure an addiction and pass rigorous exams through pure spite. His frustration will boil over into an explosive meltdown against his parents or Zaryab. What Would Prove Me Wrong: If Zamil quietly sits in a library, studies with sincere dedication, and gets straight A grades without throwing another temper tantrum.

Prediction 3: Abu Bakar’s Professional Path Will Cross With Habib’s Business

Confidence Level: POSSIBLE Reasoning: We saw at that Abu Bakar is managing high level expansion projects involving federal ministers and industrial plants. Habib is a major Karachi businessman with various commercial ventures. Dadi and fate have already brought them into the same living room; the professional arena is the next logical step where Habib will witness Abu Bakar’s real worth firsthand. What Would Prove Me Wrong: If Abu Bakar’s career is never mentioned again and he remains purely confined to his Hyderabad home.

Final Fan Verdict

This was easily the best episode of Dar e Nijaat so far.

The contrast between Abu Bakar’s quiet humility and Zamil’s loud, pathetic insecurity made every minute gripping. Seeing Abu Bakar casually carry a Harvard credential on his resume while Zamil uses Harvard to emotionally blackmail his girlfriend was the kind of dramatic irony that Pakistani television does best.

Zamil’s sister spoke for all of us: this is not Romeo and Juliet, it is two deeply confused young people spiraling into a pit of codependency.

With the drug rumor now out in the open, the wedding festivities about to kick into high gear, and Zamil viewing Abu Bakar as his sworn enemy, the Karachi mansion is heading straight for a catastrophic reality check. I am completely hooked.
